Positions can involve the process of machining bar steel or castings into gears or sprockets or perform a variety of operations on powdered metal gears and sprockets. Job Description: REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: * Is familiar with and follows all work instructions that apply to the job. * Loads and runs machine. * Makes necessary machine adjustments to maintain tolerance or notifies Area Leader when adjustments are needed, depending on specific machine operating instructions. * Unloads machine and stacks parts according to Process Sheet or shop criteria for material handling. * Properly tags product at each stage of process, according to shop criteria. * Keeps track of pieces produced. * Performs all visual inspections and dimensional checks called for on product's Process Sheet, using the gages or measuring equipment specified. Records or charts results as called for on the Process Sheet. * Stops production and notifies Area Leader when nonconforming parts are found. * Changes tooling at specified intervals or when wear becomes excessive. Sharpens tools at grinders provided, or returns tools to Tool Room for sharpening, depending on shop criteria. * Notifies Area Leader about problems with machine operation. * Maintains a safe work area by performing general housekeeping duties in work area. RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITIES WITHIN THE QUALITY SYSTEM: * Release product to ship or to the next operation by following documented instructions. * Stop production for nonconforming or suspect product. * Identify and record problems. * Recommend solutions to problems through channels. * Regrade some product (as defined by documented instructions) during the course of production. PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIRMENTS RELATING TO ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Ability to stand throughout shift. Manual dexterity required to load and adjust machine and measure parts. SKILLS: Basic math and reading skills. After blank has been ejected by the blanking machine, place blank with the marked side down into the rolling machine and press start button. When rolling is completed, place the part into the welder clamping fixture and start cycle. When weld is complete, visually inspect the part weld. If acceptable, place the part in finished container for sleeves or load into press if the part is a ferrule. Verify that the previous part has been unloaded before inserting the next part. Press unloads automatically. Return to the blanking machine to repeat the process. Check all tooling for damage and excessive wear before set-up and at tear-down on each machine. Dismantle, clean, and replace worn parts such as trim and cutoff blades, punches, and dies on blanking machine. Remove, sharpen, replace, and correctly adjust welding electrode. Use forklift truck to load and unload coils of material on stock reel. Clean and return tooling to proper storage area after use. Keep tool storage areas clean and orderly. Maintain tooling in good condition by notifying plant manager when wear or breakage occurs. Replace adjustment screws, springs, bolts, and other minor parts subject to wear. Maintain an adequate supply of drawing lubricant by informing plant manager when stock is low. Bring empty containers for finished parts and scrap to machines and remove same to proper areas when full or job is finished using hand trucks, hydraulic pallet trucks, and forklift truck. Visually inspect material for defects before operation. Use rules, squares, straightedges, micrometers, and dial calipers to check work. Remove burrs with belt sander and/or coat parts with drawing lubricant when necessary. Adjust equipment to maintain established production rates and quality work. Notify production control manager when problems occur. Add hydraulic oil, drawing lubricant, and lubricate machine. Remove dirt and excess lubricant from the machines and maintain the general work area in a clean and safe condition. Use computer system to access part prints, operating procedures, and quality assurance forms. Complete required daily reporting documents. Use work scheduling system to proficiently start jobs, print labels, load components and raw materials, and close out jobs.
