**Job Description**
**Essential Job Functions & Tasks**
Real-time system operation technical expertise, design authority, configuration management, and asset management to provide assurance that Transmission assets are placed in service in accordance with the design and system of record, promoting the reliability and safety of transmission real-time system operations.
**Configuration Management and Design Authority**
+ Serve as the technical lead and Design Authority for every scheduled outage and emergency restoration event, ensuring configuration management controls are applied in real-time for every outage.
+ Exercises Design Authority over AEP Transmission substation, protection and control, and transmission line assets and infrastructure systems that are impacted by grid changes.
+ Establish, administer, and enforce repeatable verification processes and practices related to Connectivity Requirements and System Operations.
+ Establish and enforce connectivity requirements to be properly documented and accessible, both for in-service verification and routine auditing before or during a system outage.
+ Maintain final authority to verify outage expectations are successfully proven as met through documentation in all systems and applicable models.
+ Responsible and accountable to identify all system impacts including, but not limited to, facility ratings that are modified by work being performed or planned through a given outage are accounted for
+ Provide 24/7 support to ensure coverage for transmission configuration issues; be reachable via designated phone/messaging and remote access tools.
+ Maintain final authority to verify configuration management expectations are proven via documentation in all systems and models for every outage.
+ Coordinate in real-time with the Real Time Operations Control Center and Transmission Field Services to resolve configuration issues and minimize system risk.
+ After restoration, lead configuration reconciliation: confirm permanent model updates, update breaker/node one‑line diagrams and other deliverables, perform post‑event documentation and lessons‑learned, and update procedures to prevent recurrence.
**Engineering Deliverable Processes and Oversight**
+ Provide engineering direction/approval for temporary configurations as required to support safe restoration and configuration management of AEP Transmission substation, protection and control, and transmission line assets within the system of record.
+ Maintain final authority and ownership of the first draft of the breaker/node One-Line Diagrams provided to Engineering or other teams for next action.
+ Develop and provide (furnish) transitional documents and deliverables as needed for construction activities including, but not limited to: substation drawings, transmission line connection diagrams, P&C drawings, relay settings (line and substation), compliance documentation, facility ratings, real-time and future system modelling data, and system connectivity diagrams.
+ Develop processes for managing, monitoring, and consistently reporting critical calculations and data required for compliance with assigned NERC standards and best operational system practices.
**Asset Engineering and Construction Planning**
+ Technical oversight of design of asset replacement/improvement projects. Review of construction outage sequences, including intended clearance points, and verify all configurations are valid to match the modeled system configuration.
+ Manage and facilitate on-going need discussions with Transmission Field Services for all construction, both capital and maintenance.
**Minimum Requirements:**
**Education:**
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or an equivalent of Engineering Technology
**Experience:**
Minimum of ten (10) years of electric utility experience, including five (5) years in a transmission environment.
**Other Requirements & Preferred Qualifications:**
Professional Engineer registration is preferred.

Test plant equipment to determine the operating condition of equipment and seek improvements or corrective actions. Oversee the analysis of control systems; recommend/make proper adjustments of systems to improve and ensure the safe and efficient operation of the plant.
Develop, maintain and enforce safe working conditions by providing proper and adequate tools, equipment, protective clothing and devices.
Establish and enforce safety work behaviors. Participate in the setting of safety goals for an accident-free work environment.
Communicate to employees the importance of a safe work environment on a daily basis. Investigate, report and track incidents/accidents including root cause analysis and corrective action taken. Report findings to management and then communicate findings to employees.

SSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1) Create, revise and maintain engineering and record drawings, and sketches.
2) Support the creation, revision, and maintenance of facilities and equipment documents; including but not limited to construction, equipment, property documents and records.
3) Obtain information required to perform work from verbal communication, sketches, marked drawings, listings, field notes, vendors' catalogs and technical reference manuals and site visits.
4) Perform mathematical calculations required to accomplish assigned work.
5) Proficiency in the use of computer aided design software. Autodesk products - AutoCAD Electrical, Civil3D, Inventor, Vault.
6) Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office software.
7) Read vendors' prints, shop and other drawings and equipment operating instructions, and incorporate that information into the work being performed.
8) Demonstrate ethical behavior as outlined in the AEP corporate policies.
9) Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
* Must have completed at least one year working toward associate degree in applied science (AAS) drafting and computer aided design (CAD) or in civil, structural, electrical or mechanical engineering technology or design, or relevant equivalent experience and/or education.
* Must be at least 18 years old.
* Graduation date of December 2026 or later.
* GPA of 3.0 or higher.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Physical demand level is Sedentary. Must be familiar with conventional drafting symbols and drafting methods and can distinguish colors.

What You'll Do:
1) Update, maintain and index engineering records and files.
2) Diagnose performance and failure of operational equipment.
3) Perform calculations and detailed engineering studies using scientific calculations and the computer system.
4) Develop, test, modify and document computer programs.
5) Conduct computer simulation studies.
6) Prepare cost estimates.
7) Prepare memoranda, reports and make presentations.
8) Visit System and supplier facilities for inspections and tests.
9) Become familiar with Company organization, departmental functional responsibilities, and group interrelationships.
What We're Looking For:
Completion of freshman year in a 4-year electrical engineering program that has been recognized by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).

Report directly to an engineering unit of the Service Corporation, operating Company office or generating plant, that is to supervise the assignment projects. Report administratively to AEPSC Personnel Department-Employment Section or other System group who received budgetary approval for hiring.
