Zurich is looking for a Sr. Liability Trial Attorney to join our in-house Staff Legal team. This Trial Attorney will be responsible for representing the commercial insureds of a prestigious and financially stable commercial insurance carrier, and preparing and trying high complexity, high exposure General Liability and Commercial Auto personal injury cases.

The selected candidate will perform duties encompassing all aspects of insurance defense, including initial investigation and legal analysis and advice, preparing and filing legal pleadings and documents, performing legal research, preparing for and conducting pre-trial discovery, preparing for and aggressively handling hearings and trials, and conducting post-trial activities where appropriate. We look for demonstrated case analysis ability and a track record of proven trial and negotiation skills, along with the ability to work independently and without substantial supervision. The successful candidate must have strong computer skills and be able to handle remote team-based work which requires them to use video conferencing, task assignments and other computer-based systems.
Basic Qualifications:
Juris Doctor and 7 or more years of experience in the Litigation area
AND
Active member in good standing of the Arizona State Bar
Experience with Microsoft Office and Adobe
Experience working with Lexis or Westlaw
Knowledge of the insurance industry, claims and the insurance defense litigation legal environment
Preferred Qualifications:
First Chair Jury trial experience
Experience handling insurance industry claims and general commercial litigation, including but not limited to wrongful death, commercial motor vehicle torts, products and premises liability, and personal injury, from inception through trial.
Must be well organized with good analytical skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, proactive approach to file handling and caseloads, and able to work independently as well as within a team environment.
Ability to budget costs and calculate exposure for clients.
Efficient work habits, knowledge of billables and diary review with substantive and procedural legal knowledge.
Understands the staff counsel function and role in overall business.

Job Summary

JOB SUMMARY
The Associate Litigation Attorney will manage workers' compensation cases with varying degrees of complexity as well as provide litigation and claims legal advice and services. This position will work under the direction of a managing attorney to provide proactive case handling of high quality. Provides litigation services and is responsible for all aspects of assigned Workers' Compensation matters.
Collaborates closely with experienced attorneys on a variety of legal matters, including research, drafting, litigation support, and client counseling.
Develops legal strategies for the litigation of claims cases.
Conducts legal research and analysis on complex issues.
Drafts legal documents including pleadings, motions, contracts, and memoranda.
Assists with case preparation for hearings, trials, and depositions.
Collaborates with internal business partners/senior attorneys on strategy and case management.
Manages an assigned caseload to effectively meet deadlines.
Ensures timely filing of all pleadings and motions or other documents with the court or administrative boards.

Proficient in the use of a personal computer and skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe, and PowerPoint. Ability to learn various proprietary computer applications.
Effective communication skills to convey information to internal/external clients both verbally and in writing.
Ability to define legal issues, collect necessary data, establish facts, draw legal conclusions, and implement strategic legal resolutions.
Basic understanding of workers' compensation administrative rules, procedures, laws, and statutes is highly preferred.

Seeking a law student to work in civil litigation practice in an in-house counsel setting. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills, excellent organizational skills, and have experience conducting online legal research using Lexis or Westlaw.
Under supervision, law clerk will provide assistance and support to attorneys in various stages of litigation. Assignments will include legal research and drafting memoranda, assisting in drafting and answering discovery, gathering evidence, organizing files, scheduling events, working with medical records and assisting in preparation of cases for trial. There will be opportunities to shadow lawyers during depositions and hearings.

The position is located in downtown Boston and is hybrid - will work with your class schedule.
