WCPSS school bus driver qualifications
Must be 18 years old.
Must possess a valid NC driver's license.
Must have had a valid driver's license for a minimum of two years.
Within past 12 months
No conviction of any moving violation
No pending charge of any moving violation
No more than one charge of any moving violation, regardless of disposition
Within past 60 months
No more than three charges of moving violations of any kind
No conviction of a moving violation combined with any other charge of a moving violation
No charge of DWI or DUI
No charge for reckless driving
No charge for passing a stopped school bus
Within past 10 years
No suspension or revocation of the driving privilege, other than for such status offenses as lapsed insurance, failure to appear in court, and failure to comply with out-of-state citation; provided that there be no more than one suspension or revocation for such status offenses within the past 10-years.
Indefinite
No more than one charge of DWI or DUI

NATURE OF WORK
An employee in this class operates a school bus on assigned route(s) and schedule to provide safe and efficient transportation so that students may enjoy the fullest possible advantage from the programs and offerings of the school system. Work involves performing pre-and post-trip inspections of the bus; obeying all traffic laws and school bus regulations while operating the bus; observing all safety regulations and standards for school buses; and maintaining discipline of students assigned to ride the bus. Employee is also responsible for completing all required reports and securing the assigned bus before leaving the vehicle at the conclusion of a run or route. Employee must exercise tact and courtesy in maintaining acceptable relations with parents/guardians of students transported and with school personnel.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs required pre-trip and post-trip inspections and document inspections as required by Transportation Department instructions for bus drivers. Reports mechanical defect(s) or failures to either the transportation director or mechanic.
In accordance with Transportation Department instructions for bus drivers, performs required post-trip inspection, to detect students who may still be on board the school bus asleep or incapacitated, to detect any other irregularities or vandalism to the bus interior.
Operates the assigned school bus on the route(s) and schedule provided by the Transportation Department.
Obeys all traffic laws and school bus regulations while operating the school bus.
Observes all safety regulations and standards for school buses. This includes clearing the school bus and evacuating students quickly in the event of an emergency.
Maintains discipline of students assigned to ride the school bus. Establishes a discipline plan that is consistent with school disciplinary objectives, as stated by the principal, and which provides a clear, progressive plan of consequences for students who cause disciplinary problems and rewards for those who maintain proper school bus safety standards.
Reports undisciplined students to the proper authority.
Discharges students only at the authorized school or bus stop locations.
Transports only authorized students.
Keeps the school bus clean and free of papers, bottles, cans, food wrappers and other items, which may present a safety problem.
Reports all accidents as required by Transportation Department instructions and remains at the scene of the accident until released by the on-scene transportation director.
Completes all required reports, including such reports as may be required in the event of an accident or incident aboard the school bus.
Remains in charge of all students aboard the bus at the time of an accident, determining the existence and extent of any injuries and maintaining the safety of all passengers.
Secures the assigned bus before leaving the vehicle at the conclusion of a run or route. This includes parking the vehicle properly, making a visual inspection of the bus to check for damage and the possibility of remaining passengers, and securing all windows and doors to protect the interior of the vehicle.
Maintains acceptable relations with parents/guardians of students transported and with school personnel.
Performs other related work as required.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
May shuttle buses back and forth between schools and the transportation shop.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from high school and some experience driving large vehicles with some experience in transporting humans preferred; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must possess and maintain a valid North Carolina Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with school bus certification.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Must be physically able to operate a school bus. Must be able to quickly decelerate the bus and firmly apply the brake in an emergency situations. Must be able to turn the steering wheel of the vehicle rapidly in an emergency situation. Must be able to begin in a seated position with seat belt fastened, parking brake released, and engine running, secure the bus, rise from the seat, exit through the rearmost emergency exit, and be in position to assist passengers in exiting the bus within 20 seconds. Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

CUSTODIAN 31.25% NATURE OF WORK
An employee in this class performs a variety of manual activities cleaning and maintaining buildings. An employee in this class also controls and performs minor maintenance to the building heating and air conditioning equipment. The employee performs a variety of duties in accordance with established practices and cleaning schedules. An employee in this class will introduce minor changes in procedures and solve simple problems before contacting a supervisor. The employee receives limited supervision.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Sweeps, mops, vacuums, strips, waxes and buffs floor surfaces.
Cleans restroom areas and replenishes paper supplies and soap as necessary.
Cleans windows, walls, woodwork, blinds and light fixtures.
Dusts and cleans desks and other furniture.
Empties trash receptacles; deposits recyclable material in proper receptacles.
Sweeps sidewalks and walkways outside of buildings; polices grounds, picking up debris; shovels snow and/or applies de-icing compounds to walkways and driveways, as necessary.
Replaces burned out light bulbs.
Prepares requisition forms to obtain necessary supplies for coming workweek.
Sets traps for rodents and other pests, appropriately discarding trapped animals.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Some experience in custodial work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Custodians with an effective date of hire 9/1/18 and beyond must hold a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsement or be willing and eligible to obtain a CDL driver's license with P/S endorsements at the next training opportunity. If a candidate does not pursue a CDL drivers license with P/S endorsements at the next training opportunity or is ineligible to obtain a CDL drivers license with P/S endorsements for any reason, this could result in recommendation for dismissal.

Drive bus daily following assigned route and adhering to established schedules.

Must possess a Commercial Driver License (CDL) Permit of the appropriate class for the vehicle driven with a school bus (S) and a passenger (P) endorsement.
Must obtain a School Bus Driving Certificate issued by the State Department of Education (SDE) within 90 days of hire
Current Motor Vehicle Report must meet established safe driving criteria.
Requires knowledge of City streets and the ability to read maps and written instructions.
CPR and First Aid Certification preferred.
Must be willing and available to work a split shift.

Job Title: Bus Driver Reports to: Director of Transportation
Dept./School: Transportation Primary Purpose: Operate school bus and related equipment to provide safe and orderly transportation of students and other authorized persons on assigned route and to and from other designated locations. Qualifications: Education/Certification:
Clear and valid Texas commercial driver's license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Must be 18 years of age
Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests and annual physical exam
Ability to complete required bus driver safety training
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions

Experience:
None Major Responsibilities and Duties: Vehicle Operation 1.Drive bus daily following assigned route and adhering to established schedules.
2.Drive bus to and from extracurricular activities.
3.Anticipate problems such as traffic, weather, road conditions, and schedule changes and make necessary adjustments to ensure student safety and reduce delays.
4.Perform pre- and post-trip inspections according to specifications to ensure bus can be operated safely and notify supervisor of needed repairs. Keep assigned bus clean and maintain appropriate level of fuel.
5.Report all accidents, vehicle damage, student injuries, and mechanical problems and complete required corresponding reports. Student Management 6.Instruct students on safe entering, exiting, and passenger rules and regulations. Supervise students while they board and leave the bus and cross the street.
7.Maintain discipline and use effective behavior management control over groups of students. Report student discipline problems to appropriate administrator and communicate with teachers and parents regarding student's behavior when warranted.
8.Perform emergency evacuation of students on bus when the situations warrants. Safety 9.Observe all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses.
10.Ensure proper condition of emergency equipment, such as first aid kit, fire extinguisher, flags, fuses, crow bar, and reflector.
11.Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor. Report any hazardous conditions along scheduled route.
12.Install snow chains during inclement weather.
13.Maintain safety certification. Other 14.Operate and monitor two-way radio equipment to communicate with transportation office and other drivers.
15.Complete and maintain accurate, up-to-date, and timely records and reports including but not limited to those related to bus mileage, gas and oil consumption, and number of passengers transported. Environment: Frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, noise, and vehicle fumes; work around moving vehicles; regularly work irregular hours, and occasionally work prolonged hours
