American Society for Radiation Oncology company history timeline

1979

By 1979, nine states licensed radiologic technologists.

1983

Estimating that the Society would be able to operate for nearly half the cost as in Chicago, it opened its office in Albuquerque in August 1983.

1986

To better represent all its members, the ASRT in 1986 created a new legislative and governing body, the House of Delegates.

1993

The ASRT further refined the organization of its House of Delegates in 1993 with the adoption of a chapter system.

1995

In 1995, the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) made continuing education mandatory as a condition for the annual renewal of technologists' certifications.

1998

1998 ASRT launches its website, www.asrt.org.

In 1998, ASTRO became its own independently managed Society and moved out of ACR’s building in Reston, Virginia, to its first headquarters in Fairfax, Virginia.

2000

The coalition’s work led to the introduction of the Consumer Assurance of Radiologic Excellence bill (CARE bill) eight times in the House of — in 2000 by Rep.

2004

2004 ASRT completes a major renovation of its office in Albuquerque, N.M., that more than doubles the size of the facility.

2005

2005 Online version of Radiologic Technology debuts.

2006

In April 2006, ASTRO moved its headquarters to 8280 Willow Oaks Corporate Drive in Fairfax, Virginia, to help with the growing staff size and to allow staff and visiting members better access to Washington.

2007

ASTRO's 2007 core physics curriculum for radiation oncology residents.

When it was reintroduced in both houses of Congress during 2007, the bill had a slightly different name.

2008

Methods and materials: The history of ASTRO, from its beginning as the American Club of Therapeutic Radiologists, is the subject of a book that is to be released with the occasion of the 50th Annual Meeting of the Society in 2008.
