Working with AmeriCorps members is very rewarding. The members are why I stay through everything. Co workers are also great to work with for the most part.
Management and admin staff are not great. Management and admin do not care about the member experience or staff member experience. It is 100% about the money. DEI is also not a priority. They claim DEI is important and the do a lot of work for racial dei but that is all. There is a lot of toxicity in the work place that admin and management chooses to ignore. There are some employees that have been around long enough that they can kinda treat others how they want and do what they want with no consequences. They provide no training for new staff members. Systemic issues that have been around for years are blamed on lower level staff members. Staff quit from pressure and unreasonable expectations, then new staff are hired, then the same systemic issues are blamed on the new staff.
Time off is good
The CEO is very invested and very personable. He has a lot of big ideas and talks to everyone like they are an equal. He really loves taking to program participants.
More DEI. More efforts to make people of different backgrounds feel included. Management needs to be more trusting of employees and micromanage less. There needs to be staff recognition of some kind.
I didn't
The pay for American YouthWorks is pretty low. It is decent for non profit work but not comparable for the amount of work expected.
There is decent racial diversity but not enough diversity of people of different genders, LGBTQIA+, disabilities, neurodiversities, economic statuses, ages, etc.
Personally, the thing that brings me the most joy at work is, working with program participants
