The position assists Fleet management staff-including technicians, replacement coordinators, and administrative staff-in the maintenance, repair, and preparation of County vehicles and equipment. This role involves physical labor and may include general housekeeping, site maintenance, and vehicle upkeep as needed. ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES Assists Fleet staff in general repair, maintenance, and vehicle preparation tasks. Performs semi-skilled maintenance and repair duties related to Fleet operations. Aids Fleet operations and maintenance personnel in performing general maintenance and repair duties. Completes physical labor assignments, including site and vehicle upkeep. Performs related work as required. KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS Knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in facility and vehicle maintenance. Ability to learn Fleet operations practices and procedures. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to perform a variety of manual labor tasks in all weather conditions. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with coworkers. Ability to identify and follow safety precautions and avoid occupational hazards. Ability to perform tasks require eye-hand coordination, color recognition, and physical agility. Ability to lift or interact with job-related equipment weighing over forty-five (45) pounds. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Graduate of an accredited high school or possess an acceptable equivalency diploma. Some experience in one or more of the building, mechanical, or electrical trades. Must have a valid driver's license and be able to secure a valid Florida driver's license at time of employment within this classification. Must be able to obtain a Florida CDL license within twelve (12) months of employment. A comparable amount of related training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications, except for licensure. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS All employees will be required to work before, during, or after an emergency. During an emergency, employees may temporarily be assigned to work and perform duties outside the normal scope of their position, location and work schedule to fit the needs of the County and its citizens.
