World Relief Sacramento's Digital Literacy Capacity Building VISTA Project addresses barriers to education and employment faced by underserved individuals due to digital exclusion. The project aims to build long-term capacity for culturally responsive digital literacy programming by developing curriculum, coordinating volunteers, and strengthening community partnerships. Key responsibilities include conducting a needs assessment, designing relevant and accessible learning materials, recruiting and training volunteers, and collaborating with community partners to expand access to training, equipment and connectivity. The VISTA project will also help establish tracking systems, identify funding sources, and support the creation of a digital literacy lab and virtual training infrastructure. Through mentorship and hands-on experience, the member will gain skills in nonprofit program development, community engagement, and strategic planning. This project supports economic mobility, civic engagement, and community belonging by equipping individuals with essential digital skills for full participation in today's society. Our primary goal is to provide ongoing digital job search and career exploration assistance to the many and varied disadvantaged customers we serve on a daily basis. The Digital Navigator will provide these services to customers through our drop-in/phone/email Triage Service. Referrals to community supports which fall outside of our scope of service will also be included, as will referrals to Career Planners for enrollment into programmatic resources. Customers interested in pursuing Northstar Digital Literacy will be referred to our local Adult Basic Education partner. MCLS is looking to supplement an existing technology training program by offering classes to assist job seekers. Underserved communities would be targeted by outreach at library events and by the Navigator being available to assist residents with one-on-one sessions at the library. In visiting multiple library branches, the Navigator would bring technology assistance outside of the only one branch it currently exists in. Digital Navigation Corps is a program of Literacy Minnesota, an organization that connects people to transformative learning, sparks innovation in literacy and mobilizes change. This position will proctor tests, educate library users on the usage & benefits of Northstar, & promote Northstar to those with/without library cards. This person will teach computer classes with an existing curriculum that follows Northstar standards. They will be trained by a current tech instructor on conducting structured classes & answering questions. This person will collect material related to accessing tech & devices and add those to an existing tech guide. A new social worker will be on staff soon & will work with this person to do outreach to in-need residents. Branches host weekly food pantry events with community partners present to raise awareness of their services. This person will assist with pantries to aid residents in need of internet access & basic tech education. College Possible is a growing nonprofit dedicated to coaching low-income students to-and-through college, breaking the cycle of poverty and empowering our workforce. Our rigorously-tested model earns top-of-field results that have helped 98 percent of students served earn admission to college and supported nearly 80 percent through graduation. A 2011 Harvard study found that the program more than doubles a student's chance of enrolling in a four-year college. Our after-school services include (1) academic support through ACT/SAT test preparation; (2) college application assistance; (3) financial aid consulting; (4) guidance in the college transition; and (5) support toward college degree completion. Sponsored by College Possible National through AmeriCorps VISTA, the program improves outreach to students, families, volunteers, donors, and community partners, ensuring high-need communities can connect with programs that support college persistence and completion. The VISTA member develops and implements sustainable marketing systems, including a digital marketing strategy to increase awareness of College Possible's mission and programs. This work focuses on strengthening digital channels, website, social media, and email communications and aims for a 10-15% increase in engagement within the first six months. The VISTA also manages regular communications through monthly newsletters and digital campaigns highlighting student success, program updates, and opportunities for involvement. Website and social media improvements ensure consistent messaging, accessible content, and user-friendly navigation. Scalable tools, templates, outreach calendars, and documented processes allow staff and volunteers to maintain these efforts beyond the service period. The VISTA supports fundraising and outreach by developing marketing materials such as brochures, social media content, and event promotions. Collaboration with program and development teams strengthens donor and partner communications and expands outreach partnerships with schools and community organizations.
