Advex Corporation is seeking an experienced Marine and Industrial Pipe Welder to join our team. The ideal candidate will have shipboard and industrial welding experience and a strong understanding of various welding processes, including SMAW, GTAW, and GMAW/MIG.
A hands-on weld test will be required, which includes Cuni socket and butt weld tests, as well as carbon steel butt welds using 309 filler metal, all performed in a 6G or 6GR position.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform multi-pass, all-position fillet and butt welds using SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding), GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc), and GMAW/MIG (Gas Metal Arc Welding) processes.
Weld carbon steel, stainless steel, and copper-nickel pipes using SMAW and GTAW processes, including fusion inserts and open root welding.
Execute mirror welds using SMAW and GTAW processes.
Use an oxygen/propane heating torch for pre-heating materials as required.
Utilize fillet gauges, butt gauges, and a six-inch scale to ensure accurate measurements and weld quality.
Work in physically demanding environments such as shipboard settings, sub-assemblies, ladders, and staging areas.
Adhere to all OSHA safety regulations, particularly those relevant to shipbuilding and industrial environments.
Qualifications & Skills:
Minimum of five years of commercial or naval experience as a first-class pipe welder.
Proficient in SMAW, GTAW, and GMAW/MIG welding techniques.
Ability to perform welding in challenging positions (6G/6GR) and environments.
Experience with welding carbon steel, stainless steel, and copper-nickel pipe materials.
Ability to use precision measuring tools such as fillet gauges, butt gauges, and scales to inspect welds.
Ability to work well in a team environment and collaborate effectively with colleagues on complex projects.
Strong commitment to safety practices and knowledge of OSHA regulations in the shipbuilding and industrial sectors.

Measuring, marking and scribing dimensions and reference points on material or work pieces as guides for subsequent machining or fabrication operations as required by router instructions and good shop practice.
Using precision measurement instruments.
Operating hand tools and other shop equipment such as grinders, positioners, turn rolls.
Perform material handling of large weldments using overhead cranes, using proper lifting techniques with high degree of attention to safety.
May operate fork truck, with certification requirements
Ensure proper data entry of inspection and other information into computer system.
Monitor and maintain proper cleanliness and function of equipment and work area on a daily basis.
Requirements
A minimum of two years of trade school or vocational education or appropriate work experience in welding
General welding knowledge, shop math, precision measuring instruments, blueprint reading and welding symbols
Must have MIG and TIG welding experience; physical weld test will be required in selection process to meet minimum criteria for qualification.
Material familiarity with carbon and stainless steel, nickel-based alloys and aluminum

A Day in the Life:
Cosmetic welding on 16 - 20 gauge stainless steel
TIG welding sheet metal and/or components in flat, vertical and overhead positions, occasional MIG welding
Interpreting blueprints and follow work instructions and weld symbols related to the weld and metal finish process
Handle and position work with fixtures and regulate heat, and filler rod as required by AWS standards.
Comply with all policies/procedures, quality standards, and safety and regulatory requirements.
