AMF Farms company history timeline

1877

Wilfert Farms began in 1877 as a 120-acre family farm raising chickens, pigs and cows.

1909

The first artistic renderings of food grown vertically was published in Life Magazine in 1909, and although the idea was actually for vertical homesteads set in the middle of farming country, it was a beginning.

1916

In 1916, John's younger half-brother, Martin, would acquire a neighboring farm of 120-acres.

1941

When John died in 1941, the estate farm was sold to Robert and Shirley Wilfert.

1962

In 1962, Martin sold his farm and other farm assets to his son Robert.

1978

In 1978, William purchased the original Joseph Wilfert farm and David purchased the house on his grandfather Martin's farm.

2001

By 2001, Professor Despommier had the first official outline of a commercial vertical farm, detailing the specifics of water and nutrient systems and other early technology systems of modern indoor vertical farms.

2002

Since 2002, Mark has worked in a wide range of advanced roles, putting forth his expertise to Process Engineering, Management, Environmental Consulting, PR, Operations, and C-Level Director positions.

2003

In 2003, Peter founded Botany B.V through the acquisition of the research facility of Wageningen University Research Station in Horst, and quickly built a team of cultivation managers to start operating greenhouse R&D facilities for commercial companies.

2009

In 2009, Botany acquired Aegisto, a GEP-accredited company for research and registration research of pesticides.

2012

Since 2012 he has conducted extensive research on the subject of urban agriculture and established contact with knowledgeable parties in the field.

2014

Anthony has been Vice-President of the QualityCoast Award since 2014, a programme of the Coastal & Marine Union (EUCC) and partly funded by the European Commission.

2017

Tom has more than 10 years of proven experience as CEO in global industrial public companies, such as Deceuninck (Euronext Brussel – tickercode: DECB) and Balta (Euronext Brussel – tickercode: BALTA) where he realised an IPO in 2017.

2018

His outstanding work led Frank to be nominated for an ABN AMRO Food Circular Award in 2018, a prestigious award acknowledging individuals working to accelerate the circular economy in food retail and production.
