Job Description for Registered Nurse, Infection Control (RN): Monday-Friday

+ The IP possesses clinical expertise and utilizes critical thinking skills to engage in practices of infection risk assessment, surveillance analysis, investigation and control of healthcare acquired infections and outbreaks.

+ The Infection Preventionist is responsible for the Infection Prevention and Control Program of the facility.

+ The IP facilitates methods for safety prevention and control of infectious diseases for all patients, team members, volunteers and visitors through ongoing research and the integration of evidenced-based best practices, education/training, policy development, observation of practices through rounding and formal evaluation of the effectiveness of all infection prevention efforts.

+ The IP collaborates with Leadership, other healthcare professionals, community agencies and follows the standards and regulations from the CDC, Department of Health (DOH), CMS, OSHA, and the state of West Virginia.

+ As an Infection Preventionist you must be patient/family focused, loyal, motivated and interested in the wellbeing of our team members and community.

+ The IP practices autonomously within professional nursing standards, the Code of Ethics and the Bill of Rights.

+ Effectively uses and role models current leadership techniques and theories, encouraging the decision-making skills of staff members and providing insight and leadership in complex situations.

+ Ensures that information disseminated to staff is monitored for effectiveness and changed as needed.

+ Understands and enforces policies and procedures.

+ Responsible for maintaining the integrity of the Infection Control Program. Including but not limited to the development of procedures, policies and employee/community education.

+ Responsible for Antibiotic Stewardship Program

+ Responsible for monitoring and tracking data related to infectious diseases and community spread at the national and state level.

+ Participate in monthly QA.

+ Develops or assist in the development of action plans related to an effective Infection Control Program.

+ Responsible for documentation, written or electronic, of the infection prevention and control program and its surveillance, prevention and control activities.

+ Performs other duties as assigned.

+ Prep for the day; set up totes

+ Fills daily drug orders accurately and efficiently in a timely manner, under the supervision of a pharmacist.

+ Assists in processing returned drugs and recycle/dispose per procedure.

+ IV experience

+ Review facility pre-list and prepare 30 day cards with the appropriate drug for the full fill.

+ Assists in monthly fills by delivering and exchanging medications to scheduled nursing home.

+ Assist in pre-packing frequently ordered medications, label, and store, as needed during low volume times.

+ Packages materials and products manually

+ Receives packing order and pull items to be delivered from order sheets

+ Determines that the correct packing materials are available at packing station

+ Checks packing list for accuracy

+ Applies labels, and stack boxes according to directions

+ Coordinate STAT deliveries

+ Keeps record of departure times and items packed and attaches to order

+ Follow all applicable government regulations including HIPAA.

+ Other duties as assigned.

Minimum (Required): (must be met in order to perform the job at the required level)

+ High school graduate or equivalent.

+ Ability to work at a moderate speed

+ Ability to read, write, speak and understand English

+ 1 year working experience or a pharmacy technician

Preferred: (if above and beyond the minimum required) Certificated Pharmacy Technician with certification in good standing.

Physical Demands: May sit, stand, stoop, bend and walk intermittently during the day. May sit or stand seven (7) to ten (10) hours per day. May be necessary to work extended hours as needed. Finger dexterity to operate office equipment required. May need to lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds on occasion. Visual acuity to see and read fine prints.
