Job Summary
Consistently and safely operate locomotives and trains in compliance with federal regulations and corporate policies. Operates equipment during varying work hours within a 24/7 transportation environment maintaining alertness, situational awareness and vigilance. Thinks and functions independently and utilizes clear and effective verbal communication skills in interaction with fellow crew members and other personnel responsible for safe and efficient train movement.
Minimum Qualifications
* H.S. Diploma or GED Required.
* Some work experience demonstrates the ability to maintain alertness, awareness and vigilance, as well as clear, effective verbal communication skills in the performance of work. Satisfactory attendance and safe work record. Prior railroad operating experience and work history that demonstrates the ability to adapt to variable and often changing work hours preferred.
* Although a driver's license is not required, applicants with a driver's license must provide a certified copy of motor vehicle driving record from the chief of the state driver's licensing agency in which the applicant was last issued a license and any license(s) issued or reissued from other state(s) within the preceding 60 months. Motor vehicle records must be void of any drug and alcohol violations within the previous 36 months. 2. Must have a motor vehicle driving record void of any convictions or state action canceling, revoking, suspending or denying a driver's license for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of or impaired by alcohol or a controlled substance within the last 36 months or a record of refusal to undergo such testing as required by state law within the last 36 months. 3. Must sign a release of records authorizing all previous railroad employees to provide Amtrak with background information, if applicable. In accordance with FRA regulations, previous railroad service records must be void of any drug and alcohol violations within the previous 60 months.
* If selected, incumbent will be required to successfully complete Engineer Training as follows: 8-10 weeks classroom and field work while headquartered at Amtrak's Training Center in Wilmington, DE; followed by extensive qualifying and on-the-job training associated with the Crew Base for which hired; paid at the student training rate until incumbent achieves certification as a Class 1 Train Service Engineer.
* Individuals currently certified as Class 1 Train Service Engineers are paid at the rate determined by the agreement schedule.
* Incumbents are subject to periodic medical examinations including random drug and alcohol screenings.
* Applicants for this position will be expected to meet the criteria for vision, color vision, and hearing set forth by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) in 49 CFR 240.

What You'll Do
Collaborate with Reliability and Cross Functional Engineers to create and execute test methods i.e, test-to-failure, accelerated life testing (ALT) and highly accelerated life testing (HALT)
Perform failure diagnostic or forensic activities, or partner with a third party for failure analysis to arrive at root cause of problems
Participate in DFMEA analysis of sub-systems, or DRBFM analysis for component replacement or redesign
Administer test programs for Product Reliability and Component Selection
Support the documentation process by creating and updating test procedure documents.
Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies, trends, and advancements in the reliability engineering field.

Required Qualifications
Enrollment in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Mechatronics, or a related field.
Basic understanding of electro-mechanical systems.
Familiarity with basic statistics.
Hands-on experience with measurement tools, prototyping, and hardware testing is a plus.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze and debug hardware issues.
Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Eagerness to learn and a genuine interest in testing and technology.
Previous internship, personal projects, or coursework related to hardware development, reliability, or product quality is advantageous.
Duration
This internship position is a 10-week program, starting May 2026. The exact duration can be discussed during the interview process.

What You'll Do
Leakage & Sealing Analysis
Evaluate sealing strategies (O-rings, laser-welded joints, adhesives) for small fluid systems.
Evaluate a plastic-on-plastic interface between two components to provide a seal in lieu of a standard O-ring or gasket
Recommend best design practices for high-pressure or low-flow systems.
Manifold Design for Fluid Distribution
Design a manifold that evenly splits flow across multiple outlets.
Use CFD to optimize geometry, then prototype and test.
CFD Model Validation
Simulate laminar-to-turbulent transition in a channel or nozzle.
Validate with experimental Reynolds number-based measurements.

Job Summary & Core Responsibilities:
The overall responsibility of this position is to conduct engineering activities to support the AITX railcar fleet. This includes lease returns, car reassignments and repair of railcars in shops. Review and create appropriate repair projects for railcars per AAR, AWS, NACE and FRA recommended designs and regulations as well as the review of repairs for cars currently in shop. This position requires the ability to perform independent research into new applications or improved techniques for repair. Support of the AITX Customer Service and Sales departments is a key aspect for this role.
• Act as a team member in supporting operations/engineering projects and activities, this includes assisting with repair information, managing and reviewing documentation, approving billing repair cards, and other duties as assigned.
• Demonstrate increasing levels of ownership and responsibility for activities and projects as progression is made toward the final stages of co-op.
• Work closely with operations and engineering staff, as well as contractors/vendors (as needed), in planning and supporting engineering activities/projects, conducting repair assessments, data collection, gauging bids/estimates, etc.
• Perform systems and information upkeep, and manage administrative duties such as drawing/document handling and storage, and preparation of technical reports and summaries as dictated by stage of co-op.

What You'll Do:
As a Quality Engineer Intern, you will support the Quality Engineering team in ensuring that our products meet rigorous standards of performance and compliance.
