Job Summary
Responsible for inspection, testing and maintenance of electrical, electronic and HVAC systems on rolling stock equipment and components in accordance with FRA and Amtrak standards and guidelines.
Essential Functions
* Performs inspection, testing and maintenance in accordance with 49CFR regulations and Amtrak standards and guidelines
* Utilizes a variety of test equipment, PC, and graphic information to diagnose malfunctions, troubleshoot and qualify components and circuits to determine corrective actions and causes of equipment failures
* Repairs and/or replaces doors, electronics, signs, pantographs, and HVAC systems
* Installs components such as motors, generators, switches, relays, batteries, and transformers
* Performs approved electrical modifications and repairs or replaces components, as necessary
* Troubleshoots equipment to determine corrective actions and causes of equipment failures
* Maintains proper care and use of materials, test equipment, machines and hand tools normally associated with assigned job
* Works on electrical systems and components with AC and DC voltage
Minimum Qualifications
* HVAC experience
* High School Diploma or GED
* Experience in electrical repairs, and testing advanced electrical/electronic systems and reading, drafting, and interpreting circuit diagrams, schematics, and mechanical drawings
* Experience in both A/C and D/C electrical systems
* Must successfully complete training and attain/retain certifications applicable to assigned job
* Knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems
* Ability to troubleshoot using schematics and multimeters
* Knowledge and skill in the use of electrical tools, equipment, and the measurements necessary to meet established standards
* Some computer skills
* Must be able to lift items weighing up to 25lbs

Position Summary
American President Lines, LLC is seeking a full-time, skilled and experienced Journeyman Maintenance Technician to join the team at Port of Tacoma Terminal 18. This role is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on refrigerated systems (reefers) installed in intermodal shipping containers. The technician may also be required to service and repair generators and other power equipment, and must be capable of operating service trucks and forklifts as part of daily operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in refrigeration systems, electrical troubleshooting, and mechanical maintenance, and will work in accordance with IAM union guidelines and safety standards.
Candidates must be available to work either of two scheduled shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Functions & Duties
Yard Repair
Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on refrigerated container units (Carrier, TK, Daikin, Star Cool)
Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical and refrigeration system issues
Conduct inspection and testing to ensure equipment meets operational and safety standards
Maintain accurate service records and documentation of work performed
Service and repair generators and auxiliary power equipment as operational needs require
Operate service trucks and forklifts to transport tools, equipment and containers as needed

Spare Parts Shop

Responsibilities and Duties:
Provide preventive and predictive maintenance of the electrical distribution system
Interpret drawings, schematics, blueprints, specifications, codes, ordinances and other documentation of equipment and systems within the plant

As an Industrial Electrician you will be responsible for lay out, assembling, installing, testing, troubleshooting, maintaining and repairing to electrical wiring, fixtures, control devices and related equipment in buildings and other structures in accordance with applicable codes.
What you'll do:
Designs, installs and maintains electrical power and control installations.
Reads and interprets drawings and electrical code specifications to determine wiring layouts for new and existing installations.
Pulls wire through conduits and through holes in walls and floors.
Installs, replaces and repairs lighting fixtures and electrical control and distribution equipment, such as switches, relays and circuit breaker panels.
Splices, joins and connects wire to fixtures and components to form circuits.
Tests continuity of circuits using test equipment to ensure compatibility and safety of system, following installation, replacement or repair.
Troubleshoots and isolates faults in electrical and electronic systems and removes and replaces faulty components. Inspects existing electrical systems and components on a preventative and as-needed basis to ensure conformance with applicable codes.
Works with the primary distribution systems for both repair and maintenance, and in support of power company outages.
Provides emergency response service for all facilities.
Estimates labor and material requirements. Orders and maintains equipment and supplies.
Supports and provides assistance to instrumentation, engineering and other maintenance technicians in their respective design, maintenance and repair duties.
Responsible for observing all applicable safety requirements and reporting immediately any unsafe practices/conditions.
Carries out other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
Thorough knowledge of national and local electrical codes.
Ability to read, understand and interpret blueprints.
High degree of mechanical aptitude, accuracy and precision.
Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, push, pull, crouch, crawl and/or climb for prolonged periods.
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds unassisted for approximately 25% of the average work day.
Completion of an electrician apprenticeship program; or equivalent.
Attainment of trade certification.
Must have Texas Electrician License
Must be authorized to work in the US.
High School Diploma or GED is required.

Education and Experience
Completion of the Industrial Electrician Initial Training Program.
Minimum 1 year's experience in the Heavy Lift Maintenance Department.
A valid South Carolina driver's license is required to operate a Ports Authority owned licensed motor vehicle.
Skills and Abilities
Interpersonal skills for liaison with coworkers and internal customers.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Basic reading and writing skills in the English language.
