Role Description
The Characterization as a Service team at Form Energy is looking for a hands-on individual to help us develop our core technology. In this role, you will assess and refine analytical methods to characterize chemical properties of our active materials and components to enable scientists and engineers to extract critical information. This will help to build a comprehensive library of structural information as it pertains to the electrochemical functionality of the system. You will use your experience with measurements in a Wet Lab setting to create and maintain efficient processes. This is an opportunity to be an integral part of a highly cross functional team, with a direct impact on our core technology.
What You'll Do:Develop and document procedures pertinent to quantifying chemical characteristics of Form Energy's component materials including but not limited to redox titrations, acid digestion for sample preparation, and other analytical techniques Maintain robust communication with stakeholders using a cloud based sample queue and documentation organization systems Shephard new Characterization as a Service concepts into the laboratory to maximize service efficiency Familiarity understanding ASTM and ISO methods Utilize custom spreadsheets or software systems to perform automated calculations Utilize lean safety and organization concepts to serve as a leader in the Wet LabTrack sample status using a cloud-based organizational tool Facilitate installation, assembly and maintenance of new analytical instruments
What You'll Bring:B.S. or M.S. in Chemistry or a related field2+ years of industry experience with exposure to hazardous chemicals (internship experience accepted) Wet chemical laboratory experience with titration method development, elemental analysis or associated sample preparation Familiarity working within a support function with internal or external customers Experience using cloud based organizational tools Strong communication skills within a group of peers and broader organization

Position Summary
Albemarle Corporation is seeking Analytical Chemists to lead harmonization of quantitative analytical procedures for our key lithium products across all our sites globally. The Analytical Chemists positions are hands-on roles based in Kings Mountain, NC and will involve travel to other lithium manufacturing sites around the globe. These positions will be responsible for coordinating and leading all activities to ensure timely and successful execution of method comparison, improvement, validation, and transfer to Quality Control (QC) laboratories. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of a variety of analytical techniques, strong communication skills and ability to interact and collaborate with interdisciplinary global teams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities:
Optimize and validate analytical methods High attention to detail, accuracy and precision in experimental design and analytical results Conduct laboratory procedures in compliance with laboratory, site and corporate health, safety and environmental policies and maintain a safe laboratory environment Coordinate round-robin studies with manufacturing sites and perform data analysis Author, review and update standard operating procedures, as needed Set and manage platform for method implementation and transfer Coach QC technicians on use of methods emphasizing standardization Harmonize instrumentation across global QC network Support digitization of analytical methods database Monitor processes and products, and liaison with QC to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and standardization Other duties as assigned

The focus will be to characterize and investigate polymeric materials within a highly multidisciplinary approach to problem solving.

Be the subject matter expert in surface science and microscopy techniques as it relates to soft matter films including adhesives, multi-layered films and laminates, phase separated and nano-composite, topcoats, static and dynamic contact angle and surface energy determination.

Interpret data, write technical reports, maintain careful documentation LIMS/ELN and communicate analytical results with MSC and divisional scientists in a professional, and timely manner.

Develop and validate standard operating procedures (SOPs) for both routine and non-routine analysis, help identify trends and solve problems at the elemental level using sound fundamentals and creativity.

Adeptly troubleshoot & maintain and coordinate existing Surface Science instruments and take ownership to supervise laboratory practices. Seek out and evaluate new characterization tools and approaches to support new product development and cogent problem-solving needs.

Develop and maintain external academic relationships to access key unique measurement tools.

Direct and guide junior staff in daily tasks to meet project needs, efficiently prioritize and deploy self and other resources.

Inventory and order materials to maintain lab supplies in conjunction with other lab staff.
