The YSU Division of Chemistry in the Department of Chemical and Biological Sciences is comprised of 12 full-time tenure track faculty, 2 lecturers, 4 staff members, over 50 majors in its BS and BA programs and an active MS program with 14 students. The department is exceptionally well-equipped in research instrumentation, and offers a rich, hands-on 'learning through research' experience for its students. As part of the College of STEM, the department also participates in the YSU Ph.D. program in Materials Science & Engineering.
Position Information
Plans, organizes, teaches, and provides feedback to promote and direct student success. Responds to students in a timely manner. Communicates with students, departments, and university officials via university provided tools and resources.

Work Schedule: Typically, Monday through Friday, including some evenings, and the possibility of some weekend days.
Qualifications and Competencies
Required Certifications, Training, and/or Licensures: None
Minimum Qualifications: At least a master's degree in chemistry, or closely related discipline, by the time of the appointment.
Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. in Chemistry or closely related discipline. Experience in teaching chemistry.
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry invites applications for Teaching Assistants (TAs) for the Spring 2026 semester. There are openings for assisting CHEM 205 lab sections. Applicants must be pursuing an interest in the sciences in order to be considered (pursuing a major in chemistry or biochemistry is preferred, but not required).
Chemistry & Biochemistry TAs will get the opportunity to develop their understanding of the materials at hand, gain further knowledge of topics that they previously learned, develop a professional relationship with new students, and develop their skills as educators.
Responsibilities
5-7 hour/week commitment.
Responsibilities include:
* Prior knowledge and reasonable mastery of CHEM 205 material;
* Availability to attend TA meetings taking place once weekly;
* Grading laboratory assignments in a timely manner;
* Assisting students in lab with relevant techniques and processes.
* With the agreement of TAs and instructors, additional paid hours may be available for tutoring sessions outside of lab periods, to assist students with preparation of lab reports, other lab assignments, and review of lab-related concepts.
Qualifications
You must be an enrolled student at Oberlin College & Conservatory to qualify. In order to be considered, applicants must have earned a passing grade in CHEM 205.
