The Medical Office Assistant's primary job function is to perform clerical duties associated with registration of patients, tracking, logging patient visits and assures all managed care patients receive proper pre-certification/authorization prior to their appointment. Verifies insurance eligibility by obtaining copies of patients' insurance cards-ensuring the accuracy of the registration forms. 3. Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of all computer fields (i.e., demographics, insurance screen, etc.), and insurance companies. 4. Answers multi-line phones and schedules appointments. 5. Collects patient payments and maintains a balanced cash drawer. 6. Schedules referrals and outpatient testing/procedures. 7. Registers new patients from referrals and contacts patients' referring providers with appointment. 8. Verifies insurance benefits and obtains proper authorization and certification for appointments and procedures. 9. Registers inpatients from billing census sheets. 10. Collaborates with the Physician Billing Department to resolve billing issues. 11. Assists in the coordination of care for the patient in collaboration with other members of the health care team to meet the health care needs of the patient.
