Anesthesia technician job description

**This is a full time position working at Northwest Medical Center.**

**Great opportunity for experienced Anes. Tech in the Main OR at NWMC. Prefer 1 - 2 years exp. Hours are negotiable. Call required.**

Assists Anesthesiologist by setting-up equipment and preparing medications. Orders, stocks, tests, and maintains anesthesia supplies, medications, and equipment. Washes and sterilizes re-usable equipment and reports malfunctioning equipment to appropriate personnel. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Works under general supervision. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager.
**Position Qualification/Minimum Requirements**

**Education** : HS diploma or equivalent.

**Required** : Completion of Anesthesia Tech, EMT, Certified Nursing Asst. or Surgical Tech course.

**Preferred** : EKG course

**Experience:**

Two (2) years anesthesia technician experience preferred.

**Licenses/Certifications:**

**Required** : American heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) **BLS**

**Preferred:** American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) **ACLS & PALS**

**Preferred:** Cer. A.T. or Cer. A.T.T

The Certified Anesthesia Tech provides perioperative technical and clinical support to members of the anesthesia team in relation to all anesthesia procedures. The Certified Anesthesia Tech works as a member of the surgical team, providing patient care under the direct supervision of a licensed anesthesia provider.
Responsibilities:

Understands care needs of age specific populations: neonate to 10 years old through geriatrics 64 years and older.

Understands, sets up and assists with emergency, difficult and awake fiberoptic intubations.

Prepares patient and assists provider with invasive line placement and monitoring--preps patient and prepares sterile field as well as all equipment/supplies for arterial lines, central venous lines, additional peripheral vascular lines, cardiac catheters, femoral lines, unilateral ventilation and TEE probe management.

Supports point of care glucose and blood gas testing including blood draws from patient lines

Provides clinical and technical support as needed per members of the anesthesia team as well as for all emergent situations

Assists with patient positioning and transfer

Prepares, disinfects, and troubleshoots all anesthesia-related equipment, including movement of equipment and supplies to support room turn-over and readiness.

Maintains appropriate inventory levels of supplies and equipment related to anesthesia care.

Provides clinical and technical support to anesthesia staff wherever needed in the institution--ICUs, IR, MRI, GI, CT, EP, ED

Rotates to meet the needs of the department and hospital, willingness for flexibility and on call coverage is essential.AA/EOE.

Serves as a resource for anesthesia to staff in other departments.

Supports the orientation of new staff members to the Anesthesia Technician role

Attend in-services for continuing education / completion of all on-line education in a timely manner and maintenance of clinical competency.

Assists licensed anesthesia provider with duties related to the care and monitoring of patients and equipment.
Work Schedule:
Full Time Evenings

Responsibilities:
Cleans, sterilizes and sets up all types of anesthesia equipment.

Assists anesthesia provider with monitoring, transport, positioning, insertion of intravenous and other invasive lines, and airway management.

Provides daily maintenance of all equipment and troubleshoots malfunctions.

Maintains a sufficient inventory of all equipment and supplies.

Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.

Minimum Required Education: High School diploma or GED.
Required Licensure/Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider.
Minimum Experience: 6 months of healthcare experience. BLS through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer with card in-hand before start date. BLS or CPR card must be good through sixty days of hire. All life support certification cards must be issued by either the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer. (American Red Cross for the Professional Rescuer is only good upon hire and all renewals will need to be through an American Heart Association sanctioned course.)


The pay range for this position is:
$20.26 - $26.34 / hour.
Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.
