Physician Assistant With the supervision of a Physician, (as per O.R.C. 4730) the PA-C provides medical care, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions to patients with complex, acute, and chronic health conditions. This medical care may be in a variety of clinical settings. Assesses health status by obtaining relevant health and medical history. Performs a physical exam based upon the age and patient history as per the Supervisory Agreement in place with OSMB. Must be able to work with autonomy within Ohio law under direction of supervising physician. Identifies significant health and medical risk factors. Orders, interprets and evaluates laboratory test and other diagnostic studies to assess patient's clinical problems and health care needs. Develops a diagnosis by analyzing and synthesizing collected data. Develops a treatment plan along with the patient and significant others as directed and reviewed by physician. Performs diagnostic or therapeutic interventions consistent with certification, law and Akron Children's Hospital privileges. May prescribe and monitor medications as allowed by prescriptive authority through Ohio Board of Medicine and hospital policy. Develops patient education plan. Collaborates with nursing, medical and other healthcare team members regularly to ensure quality patient care. May serve as clinical preceptor for PA students. Other duties as assigned.
Outpatient

Responsibilities:
Inpatient
Provides medical care to patients with complex acute, critical, and chronic health conditions, including the delivery of acute care services. Practice with a variety of specialty-based populations including neonatal, pediatric, and adult. Practices in any setting in which patients require complex monitoring and therapies, high intensity medical intervention, or continuous vigilance within the range of high-acuity care. Participates in quality monitoring through the review of records and treatment plans for patient outcomes on a bi-annual basis to assure quality care and per ORC requirements. This review is completed via the Focused Professional Performance Evaluation (FPPE) and Ongoing Professional Performance Evaluation (OPPE) for Advanced Practice Providers as part of Joint Commission requirements.
Outpatient

• Writes orders in patient chart, cosigned by a physician as needed.
• Participates in emergency treatment and triages appropriately.
• Maintains confidentiality of all department and patient matters.
• Communicates with families providing written materials and videos when appropriate.
• Competently assists/performs treatments/procedures for patients on their service.

Must have Supervision Agreement filed, current certificate to practice and certificate to prescribe (or eligible) by Ohio Board of Medicine. Must obtain credentialing as an active member of medical staff and appropriate medical staff privileges. Current Health Care Provider BLS training is required. Individuals hired without an MS Degree and those hired without a certificate to prescribe (or CTP eligible) must actively pursue and obtain a MS degree/certificate to prescribe. Excellent critical thinking, self-motivation and interpersonal communication skills essential.

The Opportunity

* Obtain and interpret diagnostic laboratory and related studies as appropriate, such as drawing arterial and venous blood samples.
* Establish noninvasive and invasive routine monitoring modalities as delegated by the responsible anesthesiologist.
* Assist in the application and interpretation of advanced monitoring techniques such as pulmonary artery catheterization, electroencephalographic spectral analysis, echocardiography and evoked potentials.
* Assist in inducing, maintaining, and altering depths of sedation/anesthesia; administer supportive treatment; and provide continuity of anesthetic care into and during the postoperative recovery period.
* Assist in the use of advanced life support techniques including airway management and appropriate ventilatory support.
* Assist in making post-anesthesia patient rounds by recording patient progress notes, compiling and recording case summaries, and transcribing standing and specific orders.
* Evaluate life-threatening situations and administer appropriate treatment, such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation, based on established protocols (i.e., basic life support, advance cardiac life support, and pediatric advanced life support).
* Perform and monitor regional anesthesia including, but not limited to, spinal, epidural, IV regional, and other special techniques such as local infiltration and nerve blocks.
* Assist in the performance of duties in intensive care units, pain clinics and other settings, as appropriate.

Position Summary:
OrthoNeuro is seeking a Physician Assistant to support the broader organization and various service lines. As an OrthoNeuro Physician Assistant reporting directly to a supervising physician, you will participate in all aspects of patient care and be expected to perform duties described below.
Position Responsibilities/Standards:
Outpatient Clinics
Attend outpatient clinics and participate in the initial evaluation, as well as longitudinal care of patients across all OrthoNeuro practice locations.
Obtain detailed medical history and perform comprehensive physical examination of patients.
Order and review appropriate diagnostic testing including radiographs, CT scans, MRI's, EMG's and DEXA scans.
Conduct procedures (under direction and appropriate level of supervision of the attending physician), including but not limited to: and splinting and aspiration/injection of bursae and/or joints.
Develop and implement plan of care with supervising supervision.
Complete appropriate documentation of all evaluations, care and services rendered to the patient in their medical record in a timely fashion.
Make appropriate referral for consultations when indicated.
Provide both pre and post operative patient education to patients and their families.
Respond to telephone inquiries of patients and provide appropriate medical care, referral for consultation or counseling.
Communicate with referring or primary care physicians, and physical therapy staff regarding patient care and treatment.
Provide follow up and health maintenance care including the appropriate adjustment of medications in accordance with established protocols or in response to specific instructions from the attending physician.
Prescription of medications to accomplish the plan of treatment as delineated by attending physician.
Organization and task assignment to other healthcare team members (RN's, MA's and technicians) to facilitate flow of patients.
