Emory Specialty Associates is currently seeking CAA's and CRNA's to join one of the largest surgical practices in the Southeast in an Inpatient role at Emory Decatur Hospital.

Cases Performed as part of a Care Team Model:


Assists in the management of patients undergoing general and regional anesthetics for surgical procedures including orthopedic, reconstructive plastic care, bariatrics, ophthalmology, ENT, general abdominal, obstetric, gynecological and pediatric procedures. Supervision of anesthetist students is expected of all anesthetists. Position requires some night and weekend work Position requires participation in the call team

The Successful Anesthetist Candidate:


Be a graduate of a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist program or an accredited Anesthesiology Assistant program. Licensed and eligible to practice in the state of Georgia. CRNA or CAA board certified. General or OB anesthesia experience is highly desired. American Heart Association BLS/ACLS/PALS certifications are required.

JOB DESCRIPTION:


Under the direction of an anesthesiologist, assists in the administration of general and regional anesthesia to surgical and non-surgical procedure patients. Performs initial acute cardio-pulmonary resuscitation in life-threatening situations or as directed by a physician. Interprets and records patient's physiological and pharmacological status. Assists the Anesthesiologist in gathering routine pre-op data. Instructs others in principles and practices of anesthesia, respiratory care and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation as directed by the anesthesiologist. Assists in research projects as carried out by an Anesthesiologist. Establishes multi-parameter monitoring of patient prior to, during and after anesthesia or in other acute care situations, including ECG, direct arterial pressure, central venous pressure, arterial blood gas determinations, hematocrits, and routine measurement of temperature, respiration, blood pressure, and heart rate. Establishes other monitoring as may be developed for anesthesia and intensive care use. Manages pre- and post-anesthetic care, including ventilatory support of patients as assigned by an Anesthesiologist. Manages ventilators and other respiratory care parameters as directed by the physician.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Master's degree in Anesthesia or a graduate of an accredited Certified Registered Nurse Anesthesia program. Certified by National Commission for Certification of Anesthesiologist Assts (NCCAA) or the National Board for Certification & Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA) and Nat'l Bd of Med Examiners (NBME). Must maintain biannual certification through the submission of Continuing Medical Education credits (CMEs). Georgia licensure as Anesthesiologist Assistant or Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. Current American Heart Association BLS, ACLS & PALS certifications are required. Based on established hospital/department/unit standards, employees may not perform all duties listed in this job description.

Job Description

To provide Anesthesia and related care to the surgical patient during the immediate pre-, intra-, and post-operative period. Works collaboratively with members of team to proactively support the efforts that ensure delivery of safe patient care and services and to promote a safe environment at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

* Master's degree in Medical Science; or
* Master's or Doctorate in Nursing with a concentration in Anesthesia. (The terminal degree for CRNA is now a Doctorate of Nursing Practice)

Certification Summary

* National Commission on Certification for Anesthesiologist Assistants (NCCAA) certification or Certification as a Nurse Anesthetist by the NBCRNA
* Current Licensure as a Physician's Assistant - Anesthetist in the state of Georgia OR Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the single State of Georgia or Multi-State through the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) licensure in the state of Georgia
* Basic Life Support (BLS) issued from the American Heart Association upon hire

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the American Heart Association within 60 days of hire

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

* Demonstrated writing skills in order to make entries on anesthesia record
* Demonstrated speaking and listening skills in order to communicate effectively with patients and staff
* Must be able to successfully pass the Basic Windows Skill Assessment at 80% or higher rating within 30 days of the date of hire

Job Responsibilities

1. Induces, maintains, and discontinues anesthetics as directed by the Anesthesiologist.

2. Regularly monitors patient by viewing and analyzing ECG, temperature, heart and breath sounds, noninvasive/invasive arterial blood pressure, gas analyzers, and other vital signs (including central venous, pulmonary arterial, and intracardiac pressures when appropriate) and equipment. Monitors arterial blood gas, hematocrit and hemoglobin, and other measures determined appropriate by consultation with Anesthesiologist.

3. Prepares selected drugs and equipment necessary for the conduct of the planned anesthetic.

4. Manages pre-, intra-, and post-operative care, including ventilator support placement of intravenous, arterial, and central venous lines, and blood product transfusions as directed by the Anesthesiologist.

5. Promptly records complete and pertinent anesthetic information on the anesthesia record.

6. Instructs others in principles and practices of anesthesia, respiratory care, and CPR as directed by an Anesthesiologist.

7. Performs initial acute CPR in life-threatening situations or as directed by a physician.

8. Assists the Anesthesiologist in gathering routine pre-operative data.

9. Chooses appropriate anesthesia and drugs to be administered in life-threatening emergencies where standard orders for resuscitation or therapy are routine or where the standard orders for the conduct of a specified anesthetic are prescribed.

10. Visits patients post-operatively to determine quality of recovery and to discover any problems arising from the conduct of the anesthetic. Complications are reported to the Anesthesiologist and documented for quality improvement. Writes a post-anesthetic evaluation in patient's record to include date, time, evaluation, and signature.

11. May have additional department specific duties as necessary.

**Cases Performed as part of a Care Team Model:**

We also participate in out of OR procedures including TAVRs, Mitral clips, TEVARs, EP procedures, and anesthesia for TEEs and cardioversions.
