POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Animal Care Technicians provide care for puppy's nutritional, behavioral, environmental, and maintenance needs.
Performs opening, daily and closing procedures in the kennel.
Completes procedural cleaning checklists to ensure maximum cleanliness and ensures cleanliness is maintained.
Ensures the health of all puppies and kittens is monitored daily and assists in keeping proper records.
Ensures proper pet nutrition, socialization, and cleaning is handled according to expectations.
Assists dedicated store veterinarian with puppy and kitten examinations and provides care and medications as prescribed by the veterinarian.
Selected and properly trained “key holders” assist with the training and coaching of other, less experienced Animal Care Technicians.
Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

Working alongside veterinarians, licensed veterinary technicians, and students, the attendant helps support medical procedures, patient comfort, and daily hospital workflow. The job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Assist veterinarians and LVTs with animal restraint for medical procedures (e.g., blood sampling, IV catheter placement)
Walk patients outside and collect urine/fecal samples as needed.
Maintain cleanliness of assigned areas in the Companion Animal Hospital, including hallways and floors
Perform daily dust mopping and mopping; strip, wax, and polish floors as needed
Clean and disinfect exam rooms between clients and throughout the shift
Remove trash and properly dispose of biohazardous waste
Clean feces, urine, vomit, and other animal body fluids as required
Record daily inpatient census in INC/ICU and ward areas when assigned
Restock wards, treatment areas, and workrooms with appropriate supplies
Employees working in the hospital must receive the pre-exposure rabies prophylaxis vaccination series prior to or immediately after hire, which will be paid for by the department.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma with at least 6 months of relevant experience, including companion animal handling in a veterinary setting and custodial/housekeeping or disinfection work, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Knowledge of basic infection control practices, including proper use of disinfectants and adherence to established procedures
Ability meet the physical demands of the position including but not limited to being able to safely lift or move 50 lbs. with assistance and perform physically demanding tasks such as standing for extended periods, kneeling, and maintaining steady positions
Basic computer skills, including the ability to accurately enter information into patient records
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment
Strong professional communication skills when interacting with students, veterinary technicians, clinicians, and clients, with good judgment and prioritization skills
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, demanding environment while maintaining attention to detail and demonstrating initiative

Who We Are:
At the Cruelty Recovery Center (CRC) in Columbus, Ohio, a dedicated team of sheltering, veterinary and animal behavior staff work together to serve animals rescued in ASPCA national cruelty cases and disaster responses. This team works closely with the ASPCA's National Field Response (NFR), Veterinary Forensics, Legal Advocacy & Investigations (LAI), Behavioral Sciences (BST) and Shelter Medicine Services (SMS) teams to ensure well-coordinated operations and high-quality, holistic care for animal victims of neglect, abuse and natural disasters. The CRC team also provides care for animals housed in ASPCA temporary field shelters.
What You'll Do:
The role of the Care and Enrichment staff is to keep animal housing and exercise areas clean and disinfected with daily cleaning and spot cleaning throughout the day, clean, prepare and provide daily enrichment items to keep animals engaged and reduce stress, assist with playgroups and monitor interactions and behavior, bringing any behavioral or medical concerns to the proper point of contact. This role may also include local animal transport. One of the most critical functions of the CETs is to serve as part of a harmonious, united team of shelter operations, shelter medicine and animal behavior experts, all dedicated to collaborating with each other to provide balanced, holistic care.

Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of factors, including but not limited to education, training, experience, location, business needs, internal equity, market demands or budgeted amount for the role. The target hiring range is for new hire offers only, and staff compensation may increase beyond the maximum hiring range based on performance over time. The maximum of the hiring range is reserved for candidates with the highest qualifications and relevant experience. The expected hiring salary range for this role is set forth below and may be modified in the future.
The target hiring range for this role is $20.75 - $22.19 per hour.

Direct Animal Care
Cruelty Recovery Center:
Provide daily care and support for the animals in the shelter, adhering to the CRC standard operating procedures and low stress handling and approach
Monitor and help maintain the medical and behavioral health of shelter animals; ensure adherence to nutrition, sanitation and infectious disease-prevention protocols established by ASPCA's Shelter Medicine Services team and CRC Veterinarians.
Ensure the comfort and cleanliness of shelter animals
Provide a safe and compassionate environment for animals in our care, our staff, and for our clients by using low-stress handling techniques
Comply with specific feeding programs related to behavioral enrichment for specific animals.
Work to integrate volunteers into daily care, setting clear expectations, providing guidance as needed and always communicating respect and gratitude for volunteer support
Take inventory and stock supplies as needed
Drive an ASPCA vehicle; transport animals as needed
Maintain cleanliness of animal transport vehicles

Temporary Sheltering:
Assist with planning and arrangements for temporary sheltering operations in the field
When appropriate, work with local communities affected by disasters to return rescued animals to their owners and find placement for unclaimed animals

Follow guidelines to ensure that animal holding areas include appropriate music and/or auditory stimulation for shelter animals
Exercise/socialize animals as instructed and manage playgroups as directed by behavior team
Prepare and distribute enrichment as directed; being open to any specific needs of individual animals
Assist as requested and directed in behavior interventions as a “novel person”

Ability to skillfully restrain, lift, and handle animals in stressful conditions

What you'll do at DBH:
* Provides in-house services to clients in the community who have been referred by Franklin County Community Treatment Teams;
* Working with the case manager, implements intervention plans addressing the problems which necessitated the referral;
* Assesses clients progress toward meeting treatment goals & documents same;
* Observes & monitors behavior & symptoms;
* Provides mental health services (e.g. relapse prevention education) & supportive services (e.g., community adjustment activities) for clients residing in various community settings;
* Assists/trains/participates in direct care & supervision to clients to help them identify, understand and acquire & maintain those skills (e.g., independent living skills instruction) necessary for successful community transition from the hospital to the community & maintaining successful adjustment to community living;
* Communicates pertinent information to appropriate supervisor; communicates with fellow Home-Based Support Service (HBSS) staff members in written & oral forms regarding client's progress, needs, status & activities;
* Engages clients in conversation; provides for a safe environment; accompanies clients as needed to activities, appointments & community-based services; implements appropriate therapeutic precautions;
* Performs charting & required documentation. Attends & participates in meetings & mandated trainings; meets with agencies/individuals as required;
* Performs variety of miscellaneous duties (e.g., light housekeeping in patient areas & living quarters; identifies & reports safety concerns; attends & completes required trainings & educational programs; shops for/with patients for clothing &/or personal belongings; provides clerical support).
This is an hourly position covered by the OCSEA/AFSCME bargaining unit (union), with a pay range of 7 on the OCSEA Pay Range Schedule. This position is located within our CSN Division.

Minimum Qualifications:
Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & in reading, writing & speaking common English
vocabulary. In Department of Developmental Disabilities, must also possess a high school diploma or a certificate of high
school equivalence pursuant to Ohio Administrative Code 5123:2-3-01(F) (1) (c).
Or in positions at Veteran Services in addition to above must possess STNA certification &/or listed on Ohio Nurse Aide
Registry.
