SCHEDULE: Part-Time.
FUNCTION: The person in this position will fill a variety of needs and support the Food Service and Events department. They will function in a team environment. They will support a high quality atmosphere/environment allowing for the various programs to thrive. They will provide excellent service to all who participate in functions held at the Kroc Center. Their character and attitude must always promote the principles in keeping with the Mission of The Salvation Army.
Responsibilities
General:
Prepares and serves food in an attractive manner
Works in the dish pit and busing/cleaning tables
Use excellent communication skills to work positively with different populations and build rapport with clients
Ensure that a safe and healthy environment exists for patrons
Will communicate clearly and specifically with Food Service & Events Manager and Kitchen Supervisor.
Strictly adheres to prescribed standardized recipes and kitchen procedures
Diligently works at his/her given tasks and offers help to others when needed
Maintains good personal hygiene
Performs given duties at special meal functions
Relates successfully with peers, children and public
Follows all necessary health requirements and dress code
Give the Food Service & Events Manager & Kitchen Supervisor advanced notice if unable to be at scheduled shift
Maintain any certifications
Will work evening and weekend hours to assist with special programming and events
Equipment:
He/she acquaints themselves with all kitchen and concession equipment. This includes slicers, overs, steamers, commercial mixers, grills, and dishwasher.
Maintains orderly and clean work areas
Adheres to strict sanitary standards
Keep up-to-date on cooking and equipment trends
All other duties as deemed necessary and appropriate by the Kitchen Supervisor and Food Service & Events Manager
Qualifications
Preferred 2 years of professional cooking experience.
Preferred proficiency with knife skills such as dice, chop and julienne.
A person of good character
Able to follow directions
Willing to work a variety of schedules as needed

Essential Functions

Exhibit excellent customer service and a positive attitude towards patients

Responsibilities
CookingCooks/prepares all meals and snacks for children enrolled in the center.
Follows specifications of food menu.

Cleaning
Keeps the kitchen, refrigerator/freezer and storage areas properly cleaned and sanitized.
Cleans all counter tops as needed and/or daily.
Cleans all counter/table legs weekly.
Sweeps kitchen daily.
Washes dish towels/rags as needed.
Washes all dishes daily.
Takes out trash daily.
Rotate all food
Plans the usage of food in order to avoid waste.
Rotate the food from the food storage areas to the refrigerator/freezer.
Throws away all expired food.
Responsible for assisting with ordering all food and maintaining inventory:
Bi-Weekly or as-needed inventory of all food/supplies ordered through vendor.
Weekly or as needed planning, shopping, transportation for all food/supplies to be purchased at the grocery store.
Communicates any ordering needs or concerns with the center director or administrative assistant.
Other:
Logs all time worked with the food program.
Acquires and maintains any training, certifications or knowledge needed to carry out food duties.
Follows all USDA CACFP guidelines.
Maintains kitchen/food standards that are in compliance with local health department guidelines.
Children:
Will care for children as needed and assist teachers by caring for children during teacher lunch breaks, bathroom breaks, etc.

The Sycamore Glen Retirement Center Cook:
Cooks and seasons food for residents, employees, guests, and visitors following established recipes. Prepares and stores food in accordance with HACCP principles and applicable food codes. Safely uses, cleans, and cares for equipment and work areas. Performs other duties as assigned.
Accurately manages position paperwork (follows recipes and production sheets, completes forecasting documents, etc.).
Follows correct hand hygiene procedures (washes hands between tasks and whenever dirty, uses gloves when handling ready-to-eat foods, etc.).
Utilizes appropriate scripting and responds to patients/internal and external customers (responds to internal customers such as Cafeteria staff, Dish Room staff, Supervisors, Physician Lounge attendant, and to each other in a way that promotes collaboration).
Effectively and safely uses position equipment, performing applicable cleaning/sanitation procedures (pays special attention to slicers, cleans ceiling of microwave, pulls items out of refrigerators to clean behind, etc.).
Correctly date-marks food items, monitors for temperature control, and monitors “use by” dates, ensuring food items are stored so foods with earliest “use by” dates are used first (effectively uses ice wands or other mechanisms to safely cool food, defrosts food properly, used FDA guidelines for dating, minimizes time TTC foods are out of refrigeration, stores food in proper order in walk-ins, etc.).
Prepares, assembles, serves, cooks, or bakes food and beverages per guidelines/recipes, meeting time deadlines for service.
Job Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent required.
Minimum of one-year cooking/baking experience required.
Able to read and write English and follow oral and written directions.
Able to walk and stand for long periods of time.
Able to work with and around equipment that generates heat, steam, cold, etc.
Able to follow recipes to prepare food.
Demonstrates a working knowledge of HACCP and applicable food codes.
Demonstrates appropriate knife skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience cooking from scratch and/or a la carte restaurant experience preferred.
