Title Code: Temp: Custodian This posting creates a pool of candidates for current and future positions that may become available. Under general supervision, maintains clean and healthy facilities for students and staff by performing routine cleaning and grounds maintenance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
* Cleans and disinfects offices, classrooms, bathrooms, gymnasiums, locker rooms, auditorium/multipurpose rooms, halls, and stairs including stocking bathrooms.
* Collects trash and recyclable materials from classrooms, shops, offices, bathrooms, and grounds; transport and dispose in proper containers.
* Checks to ensure all door and windows are locked in assigned work area; and secures building at the end of shift and sets alarm.
* Moves furniture and other objects and transports as needed.
* Operates, cleans, and cares for power cleaning equipment and other cleaning materials and supplies according to written and oral instructions.
* Replaces light bulbs and ceiling tiles, makes minor repairs, and reports building and equipment deficiencies needing repair.
* Assists with delivering instructional and custodial supplies to storage or other facility location.
* Clears snow and ice and places sand on entryways, walkways, steps, and landings to provide safe passageway.
* Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

Position summary: Assures that assigned areas are properly cleaned daily, prompt compliance with Managers and / or shift Building Services Supervisor, custodial closets are neat and organized, the buildings are free of trash and other debris, reporting to the shift Supervisor when supplies are needed, unsafe conditions are reported to shift Supervisor, any trouble with plumbing, lighting, breakage of furniture or any other breakdown of equipment are reported to shift Supervisor, all windows and doors are secured before exiting a room.
General purpose: Provide custodial services, including trash & recycling, daily cleaning, special events support, and other building services needs for all MICA buildings. Always provide a customer service driven, engaged and pleasantly clean, safe, and attractive environment for our students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors.
Major role functions:
Sweeps, scrubs, waxes and polishes floors.
Cleans rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture and dusts draperies and blinds.
Empties wastebaskets and recycling containers. Transports trash and waste to disposal areas.
Cleans in preparation for events set up in auditorium or exhibit galleries.
Cleans rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, offices, rest rooms, elevators, stairways, exhibit galleries, exterior of exhibit cases, stairwells, entrances and exits, storage rooms and other work areas.

Tile floors are spot mopped or dry mopped almost daily, auto-scrubbed monthly (sweep, wash, buff).
Stairwells are cleaned at a minimum of three times each week.
Dusting of lighting, windows, blinds and draperies twice per week.
Vacuuming of offices three times per week.
Cleaning behind computers in labs/ classrooms/ offices.
Entrances are kept clean and free of trash, dirt, etc., door windows are cleaned daily.
Dusting of HVAC filter returns once per month.

Custodian II Provides routine school and office building cleaning service. An employee in this class, under general supervision of a head custodian or building superintendent, performs cleaning and maintenance functions on a shift basis as assigned.
