This question is about what a 911 operator does.

Can 911 operators work from home?

By Kate Swindlehurst - Jun. 12, 2023

Yes, 911 operators can work from home. While this is a more recent change for 911 operators, it is now possible for operators to work from home. In many ways, there is not a huge difference between working in a 911 call center and working from home as a 911 operator.

With quarantine restrictions in 2020, centers for 911 operators began finding solutions to allow people to work from home. They were able to create servers that 911 operators could connect to from different locations. These servers allow operators to access all the features they can access at the center, but now from anywhere.

With the creation of these 911 operator servers, 911 operators have been given more flexibility regarding where they work. However, there are still reasons that some operators prefer to work in a center, such as needing a quiet, distraction-free place to work and not having easy access to management help if needed.
