No, a former president cannot become vice president. Two laws prevent this from happening. The 22nd amendment to the Constitution states that a president cannot serve for longer than two terms.

The 12th amendment states that an individual cannot run for the vice presidency if they are not eligible to be president. That's because they would have to become president if the sitting president died or was unable to fulfill their duties. Since a former president would be ineligible to be president, they are unable to become vice president.
