This question is about physical therapist and what a physical therapist does.
No, physical therapists do not need to go to med school. However, to become a physical therapist, you must complete a doctorate of physical therapy degree from a Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education-accredited physical therapist education program and pass a state licensure exam.
In contrast, you must take the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) in med school, followed by four intensive years of medical school with a strong focus on clinical experience. Medical schools train medical doctors that will get specialized through a residency once they finish their education.
A doctorate of physical therapy, on the other hand, is largely research-focused. Physical therapy school educates movement experts that provide physical healthcare. Some physical therapists, however, do a clinical residency. Similar to med school, a residency is a good way to begin specializing in your area of greatest interest.
