This question is about what a behavior technician does and behavior technician.
No, you do not need a degree to become a behavior technician. The education requirements to become a behavior technician include either a high school diploma or equivalent, typically followed by either a certificate program or associate's degree.
Most behavior technicians can become certified online or take community college classes to get their associate's degree. However, if a person wants to advance in their career a bachelor's or master's degree in counseling or psychology will give them access to higher paying positions.
In addition to an associate's degree or similar certification, a person must also pass a background check and be proficient at CPR and first aid. The behavior technician must also be registered through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) and participate in ongoing training and development within the field.
Other qualifications aside from degree requirements include strong verbal and written communication skills, excellent time management skills, patience, and compassion. Having professional liability insurance is also beneficial.
