Does Lufthansa drug test?

The employee is subject to a minimum of six unannounced follow-up tests in the first 12 months. Lufthansa is committed to protecting the safety, health, and wellbeing of all employees and other individuals in our workplace.

They recognize that alcohol abuse and drug use pose a significant threat to their significant goals. We have established a drug-free workplace program that balances our respect for individuals with the need to maintain an alcohol and drug-free environment.

Lufthansa complies with the drug and alcohol testing regulations of the US Department of Transportation. Lufthansa recognizes that the use and/or abuse of controlled substances and alcohol by commercial aviation present a serious threat to the safety and health of the individual employee, the general public, and the aviation transportation industry.

It is, therefore, the policy of the Company that its employees should be free of the effects of the use of controlled substances and alcohol. "Any employee who tests positive on a drug or alcohol test, or has refused to test are subject to all terms and conditions established in this policy." FAA Required Testing.

An employee who fails a drug screening is then given six unannounced follow-up tests in the first 12 months. Depending on the Substance Abuse Professional's recommendations, follow-up testing may occur for up to 60 months.

Lufthansa looks for the following during their pre-employment drug screening:

• THC (cannabis, weed)

• Cocaine

• Opiates/Opioids (Including morphine, codeine, heroin(6-AM), hydrocodone, hydromorphone, oxycodone, and oxymorphone)

• Amphetamines (Including amphetamine, methamphetamine, MDMA, and MDA)

• Phencyclidine

• Alcohol

Alcohol tests conducted under this program use an individual's breath or saliva specimen to test for the alcohol concentration present in expired breath or saliva. Alcohol tests are only conducted before, during, or after the individual performs safety-sensitive functions.

Lufthansa is a smoke-free workplace, and as such, employees are prohibited from using tobacco or vaping products while inside the building. Smoking is allowed only in designated smoking areas located outside of the terminal.
