Does Lyft drug test?

By Zippia Team - May. 26, 2022

No, Lyft does not drug test. To work as a Lyft driver, you do not need to take a pre-employment drug test. A drug test is only required if there is reason to suspect a driver is under the influence or after a car accident involving a customer.

In these cases, Lyft will ask its drivers to submit to a urine test within three days. Failure to do so or failing the drug test will result in termination.

Lyft has a zero-tolerance drug and alcohol policy for drivers. They do not allow alcohol, cigarettes, or any illegal substances in the car while on the job. In the case of a car accident, Lyft requires a drug test to be taken within 48 hours of the incident.

The test will either be a urine or mouth swab that looks for cannabis, opiates, heroin, cocaine, and alcohol in the case of an accident. If found, it is an automatic grounds for permanent termination from driving for Lyft.
