You can become a certified public accountant (CPA) without an accounting degree by earning a bachelor's degree in another field and passing an exam to obtain licensure.
Every state requires a bachelor's degree to become a certified public accountant (CPA). Some states require a bachelor's degree in accounting, specifically. However, many states will accept a bachelor's in any field, with some having course requirements in subject areas like taxes and auditing.
Once you have earned your bachelor's degree, depending on your state's experience requirements, you may also need to gain one or more years of public accounting experience.
