How do I find my employer ID number?

By Zippia Team - Feb. 1, 2023

To find your employer ID number you need to find a tax return you previously filed for your business. Your tax return contains your Employer Identification Number (EIN), or employer ID. You also call the IRS and have them search for your EIN. You can call the Business and Specialty Tax line at 1-800-829-4933.

For those that do not have EINs, your employer identification number (EIN) is critical to starting and growing your business. It helps with matters like opening a business bank account and paying taxes. Essentially it is like a social security number, but for your business.
