How do I start a career in UI UX design?

By Zippia Team - Jan. 22, 2022

To start a career in UI UX design, you typically need postsecondary education and relevant skills. Most people in the field of UI (User Interface) and UX (User Experience) have a bachelor's degree, typically in majors of graphic design, fine arts, and computer science.

Although you can begin a career in UI/UX design with just an associate's degree, many employers prefer a four-year degree, sometimes even a master's degree, if you plan to advance to high-level career positions.

In general, the UI/UX design field needs hard skills in visual design, interaction design, graphic design, and knowledge of coding languages like Javascript and HTML.

Taking training programs for UI/UX and other computer skills can be enough to get you through the door, but you will need to keep up with the industry and gain experience.

The overall job of a UI/UX designer is to design websites and software to make the experience as easy and enjoyable as possible for the user. To ensure that goal means having strong analytical and communications skills and artistic ability.
