How do I write a contractor resume?
You write a contractor resume by highlighting your technical and industry skills, along with soft skills such as interpersonal and problem-solving skills. A contractor resume is similar to a regular resume, except that under work experience, you will list the various contract positions you have had.
First, you're going to want to open with a clear and concise profile summary that covers who you are as a candidate and what you bring to the table. The profile summary should be between 1 to 4 sentences that highlight what qualifications as a contractor.
For example, "Licensed contractor with 8+ years of experience. Skilled in project management and residential construction. Coordinated plans for the construction of 100+ homes per year in the $1M-$2M range."
The profile summary sets the tone for the rest of the resume. In the next section under work experience, begin each entry with the job title 'contractor,' then add the company name and the dates worked.
Include 3 to 6 of your top achievements or responsibilities in bullet points for each contract position. We recommend focusing on quantifiable achievements rather than responsibility. For example, "Resolved issues with project construction 18% faster than the company average."
