How do I write an impressive resume for an internship?

Before you get started, we recommend that you read through a few internship descriptions from different desirable companies and take note of the skills they tend to ask for and the key terms and phrases they use to describe the role. Throughout your resume, focus on telling your story around these key phrases and skills.

Reflect upon your background and create a master list of your educational history (your major, your GPA, classes, research work, big projects, study abroad programs, honors, or awards), summer, part-time, or on-campus jobs, volunteer work, and any student organizations, clubs, or sports.

Then, once you have that list, narrow down the items that feel most aligned to the job description for the internship.

When writing your resume, focus on describing yourself with adjectives such as hard-working, creative, diligent that reflect your skills. When describing your educational and work experience, start each bullet with an action word, and whenever possible, focus on keywords and phrases.

Finally, be sure to include a customized list of skills. Include no more than ten hard and soft skills that reflect your abilities and align with those mentioned in the job description.
