How do nurses get into clinical research?
Nurses can get into clinical research by developing their education and work experience toward research. Typically a person who wants to become a clinical research nurse needs to have a bachelor's of science in nursing (BSN).
Clinical research programs allow scientists and medical practitioners to innovate new treatments, develop life-saving vaccines, and better understand disease prevention. Clinical research nurses play an important role in this work, advocating for the safety and health of patients through the research process.
A nurse who wants to get into clinical research should have at least one of the following certifications for clinical research nurses: Clinical Research Association (CCRA) and the Clinical Research Coordinator (CCRC).
They are both offered by the Association of Clinical Research Professionals. These certifications are not specific to nurses but rather those that work in the research field.
To be deemed eligible for the CCRA or the CCRC Certification exam, applicants must attest to having earned 3,000 hours of professional experience performing the knowledge and tasks located in the six content areas of the CRA Detailed Content Outline.
