How do you become a PGA professional?
To become a PGA professional, you need to develop your golfing skills, compete in amateur events, and qualify to compete in the PGA tour. There are many ways to develop golfing skills, such as finding a good coach and starting at a young age to have a long time to develop. The most important part is to make sure you are getting sufficient time to hone your skill.
Once you are ready, you should begin to look into amateur events that you can begin competing in. For success at this stage, it is important to have the necessary equipment such as high-quality clubs. Once you begin to place higher and higher in these events, you begin to qualify for larger, more competitive events.
Unlike many other professional sports, there are no required steps to switch to being a professional, you simply switch from these amateur events to begin competing at a professional level. These tournaments are more competitive and cost much more to enter, but the payout for winners is higher.
Next, you should complete Q-school, which means that you compete in the Korn Ferry Qualifying Tour School, which is a four-stage event that provides member access to the Korn Ferry Tour. Competing in and placing in the top 25 of the Korn Ferry Tour qualifies you to begin golfing in the PGA tour. Then, you work to stay at that level to be a PGA professional.
