How do you get out of the military?

The first way is conscious objector discharge. A member of the military must be able to prove that their views have changed since joining the military and they no longer believe in fighting in wars. This can be extremely difficult to prove.

There is also an early education release. This allows for a military member to discharge from the military early to pursue education if they are within 90 days of their discharge date. This can be helpful if a new semester of school or a program start date begins right before your discharge date.

Another early discharge option is a hardship discharge. A hardship discharge is given when a military member experiences a hardship that makes it so they cannot successfully continue in their position. For example, the death or permanent disability to the soldier's immediate family, such as their spouse who is the primary guardian of their children could lead to a hardship discharge.

The last discharge is called convenience of the government. This is for all other discharges that do not fit into other categories, but are not dishonorable. It is typically something that makes it easier for the government to continue their program. An example could be someone who would do better outside of the military, but hasn't done anything that would kick them out.
