How does a staffing agency make money?

By Zippia Team - Feb. 1, 2023

A staffing agency makes money through commissions it makes when a qualified candidate is hired for a job at a company that has enlisted the services of the staffing agency. Staffing agencies charge a wide variety, in terms of amount, for fees when it completes this service with a company.

Staffing agencies normally charge within the range of 25% to 100% of the candidate's job salary or wages, if they are hired. The company enlisting the services of the staffing agency then must pay it the predetermined percentage of the employee's wages or salary.

Staffing agencies can also charge hourly fees for their services. These also line up in some way with the proposed salary or hourly wage a candidate would make at the company that is using the staffing agency's services.

Here is an example:

If the staffing agency and a company have agreed upon a 50% markup and the new employee is going to earn $10 an hour as a wage, then the company would pay the staffing agency $15 per hour for each hour of services the staffing agency provides.
