How hard is it to become a navy seal?
It is extremely difficult to become a Navy Seal. Joining the U.S. Navy as an elite SEAL member requires vigorous training. The Navy seal training program is one of the most difficult human conditioning and military training tests in the world. During this program, students overcome obstacles designed to test their stamina, teamwork, and leadership.
For every 1,000 people who start Navy Seal training, only around 200 to 250 succeed. To even just qualify for the Navy Seal training program is difficult. You must be a U.S. citizen 17 to 28 years old with good vision and no color blindness. The Navy usually only accepts men into the Navy Seal program, and applicants must be able to obtain a secret security clearance.
The Navy Seals also requires you to score well on a physical fitness test and the written ASVAB test, which measures your mental sharpness and ability to learn.
The physical fitness test requires you to obtain a passing score for tests that include a 500-yard swim and a 1.5-mile run. The Navy Seals also requires you to pass the Computerized-Special Operations Resilience Test, or C-SORT, which measures mental toughness and resilience.
The attrition rate for candidates is around 25%, which is the lowest in any military division. This is partly to the rigorous physical fitness component of SEAL training. To graduate from Navy Seal training, you must meet physical fitness standards that are more challenging than those required for entry into the program.
You must swim 1,000 yards in 20 minutes or less and run four miles in 31 minutes or less, for instance. There are also standards for pushups, pullups, and curl-ups. You also must complete skills training, which includes combat diving and land warfare training.
Navy Seal candidates must demonstrate mastery in weapons use, land navigation, demolitions, cold weather warfare, and maritime operations.
