How hard is it to become a pro golfer?
It is extremely hard to become a pro golfer. Citing the Professional Athlete Index, only one out of 51,346 people who attempt to become a pro golfer succeeds. Professional golf is one of the toughest and most competitive careers there is.
To turn pro takes a minimum of 7 to 10 years of hard work, dedication, and patience. Amateur golfers with this goal should have five out of ten competitive rounds in state and nationally ranked amateur competitions be scored below par, and their highest score should not go above +3 par.
If you can't meet this requirement, you will not even be considered to play in tournaments. The cuts in pro golf tournaments range from a high of 2 over par to a low of 5 under par.
It is also extremely expensive to try to become a professional golfer. You need to constantly buy new equipment and pay for the traveling costs to attend tournaments. Not to mention the fees for the tournament, which can sometimes be $1,000 or higher.
