How hard is LPN school

Getting into an LPN program is one of the easier parts of the process. The basic requirement is possessing a high school diploma or GED. Depending on the state and school, some may require a background check or CPR certification. Some nursing schools will also require students to take the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS).

The test is similar to most other standardized tests you have probably taken. It consists of 170 multiple choice questions and you have 209 minutes to answer. The bulk of the TEAS test is tied to the foundational education you received in high school and what you were expected to learn in your secondary education.

Specific areas of the test are:

• Reading: 53 questions in 64 minutes. Areas of assessment include key ideas and details, craft and structure, and integration of knowledge and ideas

• Mathematics:three6 questions in 54 minutes. Areas of assessment include numbers, algebra, and data interpretation and measurement

• Science: 53 questions in 63 minutes. Areas of assessment include human anatomy and physiology, life and physical sciences, and scientific reasoning

• English: 28 questions in 28 minutes. Areas of assessment include conventions of standard English, knowledge of the language, and vocabulary acquisition

Once you are accepted into a program, LPN schooling can be a challenge. Programs usually include:

• Core anatomy

• Physiology

• Biology

• Chemistry

Clinical hours are also part of the program and are where you will gain skills through hands-on training. This will include several hours in hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, or other healthcare facilities. You can also expect practical classes in emergency medical technology and physical education. You may also have coursework in:

• Basic pharmacology

• Mental health concepts

• Psychology

• Maternity care

• Pediatric Nursing

• Family Nursing

• Legal aspects of nursing

After you graduate as a practical nurse, you will need your license before you can practice. This requires passing the NCLEX-PN exam, which tests your competencies for working in a healthcare facility. After passing the NCLEX-PN exam, you can apply for your state license.
