How hard is pharmacy school?
Pharmacy school is very hard. The American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy estimates that more than 10% of pharmacy school students do not graduate.
There are many reasons pharmacy school is hard, required topics that pharmacy school students are required to study include pharmacology, pharmacotherapy, and pharmacokinetics.
These are all extremely complex subjects that demand strong focus, memorization, and comprehension. Similar to medical school, students often do not have much or hardly any free time during certain periods of pharmacy school.
To enter pharmacy school you need two years of college education under your belt. However, many choose to complete four years of post-secondary education and earn a bachelor's degree before applying to a doctoral program at a pharmacy school.
To get into pharmacy school students must pass the pharmacy college admissions test (PCAT). This is a difficult standardized exam that contains pharmacological writing, biological processes, critical reading and quantitative reading, and chemical processes. It is an exam of close to 200 questions and one writing assignment.
