It takes one to two years to get a master's degree in business on average. There are different options for obtaining a master's degree in business, such as online courses, degree programs, and in-person school programs.
There are also different paths, including accelerated degree programs, part-time programs, and programs taken in conjunction with an undergraduate degree. Here is a look at the time frames for all of these options:
Full-time. Full-time MBA programs are for students who lack professional experience. These programs take two years to complete on average.
Part-time. Part-time is an option for those students who are working, either in the field of business or elsewhere, and want to pursue their MBA degree while staying at their current job.
This allows them to take a single course at a time or a course load considered part-time. This option normally takes around three years to complete.
Accelerated degree programs. Accelerated MBA programs are meant for students with strong professional experience in the business industry or relevant fields. These students normally continue to work their professional jobs while completing the MBA program.
The average timeline of an accelerated MBA program is 12 to 18 months from start to finish.
Undergraduate and then master's degree. Those students majoring in business or a related field for their undergraduate degree can choose to pursue a master's degree in business immediately after obtaining their bachelor's degree.
MBA students who choose this option can complete a master's degree in a business program in one year. This means five years total for a bachelor's and an MBA.
