It can take as little as one year and up to five to get teacher certification. This depends on whether or not you hold a bachelor's degree. To be qualified for certification, you must hold a bachelor's degree and then complete an accredited, state-approved teacher education program, including a final exam. Most bachelor's programs include certification.

State-approved teacher education programs can generally be completed in one or two semesters. It includes traditional classroom learning as well as on-the-job training. After completing the program, you then need to take and pass the teacher certification examination.
