Nurse anesthetist school lasts two to four years. Nurse anesthetists are registered nurses, so they must graduate before becoming nurses.

To become a nurse anesthetist, you first need to obtain either a two-year associate's degree in nursing (ADN) or a four-year bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN).

Some clinics and hospitals require nurses to have a BSN, so even though it is the longer option, it may be worthwhile to consider going that route. Afterward, you must pass a licensing exam in whichever state you plan on practicing to become a nurse anesthetist.
