How long is pharmacy school?

Pharmacy school can be completed in four years. There are three to four years of prerequisite coursework in an undergraduate program that must be completed before attending pharmacy school. Meaning that it takes a total of seven to eight years in all to earn a pharmacy degree.

To enter pharmacy school, you need at least two years of college education under your belt. However, most choose to complete four years of post-secondary education and earn a bachelor's degree before applying to a doctoral program at a pharmacy school. Normally, it takes students three to four years to complete the prerequisites required for pharmacy school.

To get into pharmacy school, students must pass the pharmacy college admissions test (PCAT). This is a difficult standardized exam that contains pharmacological writing, biological processes, critical reading, quantitative reading, and chemical processes. It is an exam of close to 200 questions and one writing assignment.
