How many hours can a minor work in New Hampshire?

By Kate Swindlehurst - Mar. 13, 2023

A minor can work no more than 35 hours a week in New Hampshire. In New Hampshire, there are different work hour restrictions based on the specific age of the minor, so while a 16 or 17-year-old can work no longer than 35 hours a week, it is much lower for a minor under 16.

A minor under 16 in New Hampshire has tighter restrictions for weekly work hours. They cannot work for more than 23 hours per week. There are also restricted hours, as they cannot work earlier than 7 AM and no later than 9 PM. While 23 hours is the total for a week, they cannot work more than three days on any school week.

During vacations and summer, minors may work up to 48 hours per week in New Hampshire. This includes any minor, so 16 and 17-year-olds cannot work for more than that. Summer vacation means from June 1 through Labor Day, and it does exclude any minors working and living at summer camps.
