This question is about what a commercial pilot does.

How many hours do commercial pilots work?

By Kate Swindlehurst - Feb. 20, 2023

Commercial pilots fly an average of 75 hours per month, and then work an additional 150 hours performing other duties. This brings it to a total of 225 hours per work month. The average full-time worker works around 130 hours monthly, so commercial pilots work a lot more than what is average.

This discrepancy is mostly due to the nature of flying. While the other duties of pilots include things such as checking weather conditions, attending meetings, and preparing flight plans, a large part of a pilot's work hours are travel and their variable work schedules. They often have several days of work followed by days off. They travel and may spend days away from their homes.
