How much do partners make a year?

By Zippia Team - Dec. 17, 2021

Partners make between $200,000 to $10 million a year. One reason for this huge variation in pay for partners is based on the size of the firm, the type of firm, and the level of seniority within the partnership.

Partners in the nation's top 200 law firms, for instance, earned an average of $1.054 million in 2019, an increase of 10% from 2018. The average compensation for equity partners was $1.39 million compared to $432,000 for non-equity partners.

In comparison, a partner working at a Big Four accounting company can expect to make an average of $450,000 a year, while a partner at a small accounting firm may make $240,000 a year.

Example of average yearly salary broken down by firm type:

  • Big Four Firms: PwC, KPMG, EY, and Deloitte Partner Salaries:

    • Years (One to five): $300k - $500k a year

    • Years (Six to ten): $400k - $1.3M a year
