How much do production assistants make a day?

By Zippia Team - Nov. 10, 2021

A production assistant makes between $100 and $250 a day per 8 to 12 hour day. Most production assistants who work on independent films or union films will be paid based on a day rate. Meaning it doesn't matter how many hours you work that day.

So, if you're getting paid $150 for the day, regardless of whether you work two hours or fourteen hours, you are paid $150 for the day. This is equivalent to $12.50 an hour.

Similarly, for many short-term gigs, production assistants receive a day rate with no overtime. You will still typically get a day rate for long-term jobs, with overtime only kicking in after 14 hours.

For example, if you're working as a production assistant on a feature film and TV show, it could earn you between $144 to as high as $216 per 8 to 12 hour day. Conversely, if you're working as a production assistant in independent films or music videos, you typically earn $100 to $150 per day.
