How much is an NASM certification?
A NASM certification is approximately $700. The cost covers both the exam and an online copy of the text.
Many will prepare for their NASM certification on their own. The test has 120 questions and must be completed in two hours. The passing rate for those taking the exam is approximately 90%. The test can be taken multiple times if necessary with increasing waiting periods applied after each failed attempt.
Some candidates choose to take NASM certification courses, which can take 10 to 12 weeks to complete. The courses include practice tests, mentors, and some form of exam guarantee whereby some or all of the fees associated with retesting are covered by the company. The cost of these programs ranges from $1,600 to $2,200.
NASM certification holders must recertify every two years. Recertification involves earning two credit hours of continuing education recognized by NASM and a fee of $99 for each renewal. Trainers can avoid the $99 fee every two years by paying $399 at the time of initial certification which covers a lifetime of renewal costs.
